The Rookie Program at Umina SLSC is designed for youth aged 12-14 to transition from Nippers to patrolling members. Rookies join patrol teams in their red and yellow uniforms, developing surf lifesaving skills like CPR, rescue scenarios, and radio operations, all documented in a “Rookie Passport.” The program emphasises teamwork, leadership, and patrol experience. Rookies can also participate in Surf Life Saving Central Coast (SLSCC) events such as the Raising of the Flags, Rookie Disco, Rookie Challenge, Rookie Camp and Junior Lifesaver of the Year.
