Inflatable Rescue Boat Courses (IRB)

IRB Crew

The SLSA Inflatable Rescue Boat Crewperson (IRBC) award and its aligned unit of competency provide members with skills and knowledge to effectively crew an inflatable rescue boat (IRB) in rescue operations and as part of a water safety team.

Members who hold this award may patrol in the role of an IRB Crewperson. Proficiency in this award is renewed each year through SLS Skills Maintenance.

This award builds upon the SLSA Bronze Medallion and is the prerequisite for many other SLS awards and competitive Surf Sports events.

These courses are run 2-3 times a year based on interest.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Financial Member
  • Minimum Age of 15 years
  • Proficient SLSA Bronze Medallion

Silver Medallion IRB Driver

The SLSA Silver Medallion Inflatable Rescue Boat Driver (SMIRBD) award and its aligned units of competency provide members with skills and knowledge to effectively drive and manage an inflatable rescue boat (IRB) in rescue operations and as part of a water safety team.

Members who hold this award may patrol in the role of an IRB Driver. Proficiency in this award is renewed each year through SLS Skills Maintenance.

This award builds upon the SLSA Inflatable Rescue Boat Crewperson award and is the prerequisite for some SLSNSW support operation roles.

These courses are run through the winter when our beaches are easier to access, and conditions are suitable for assessment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Financial Member
  • Minimum age of 17 years for assessment
  • Minimum age of 16 years to commence training
  • Proficient SLSA Bronze Medallion
  • Proficient in IRB Crewperson

Bronze Course 1

  • Start Date: Tuesday 10th October 6:30pm (in the club house training room)
  • First Aid Date: Saturday18th November (9am – 3pm)
  • Finish Date: Sunday, 3rd December
  • Graduation: Sunday 3rd Dec 5pm @ Sunday Sips on the Deck
  • Theory Days: Tuesday Evenings 6:30pm – 8:30pm
  • Practical Days: Sundays Morning 7am – 9am

Bronze Course 2

  • Start Date: Tuesday 30th January 6:30pm (in the club house training room)
  • First Aid Date: 24th February (9am-3pm)
  • Finish Date: Sunday, 24th March
  • Graduation: Sunday, 24th March 5pm @ Sunday Sips on the Deck
  • Theory Days: Tuesday Evenings 6:30pm – 8:30pm
  • Practical Days: Sundays Morning 7am – 9am
